Vacuum Will Not Turn On
- Battery discharged: Charge the battery fully using the approved Dyson charger or charging dock before restarting.
- Battery not seated correctly: Remove and reinstall the battery until it locks securely into the vacuum body.
- Trigger or power button issue: Press and hold the trigger or power button as required for your specific model.
- Thermal protection activated: Turn off the vacuum, clear blockages, clean filters, and allow the motor to cool before using it again.
- Charging dock has no power: Check the wall outlet, power adapter, dock cable, and circuit breaker.
Loss of Suction
- Bin full: Empty the clear bin before debris reaches the maximum fill line.
- Filter dirty: Wash the washable filter with cold water only, then allow it to dry completely before reinstalling.
- Airway blocked: Inspect the wand, hose, inlet, bin inlet, cyclone opening, and cleaner head for dust, hair, paper, or objects.
- Brush bar clogged: Remove hair, fibers, thread, and debris wrapped around the brush bar and end caps.
- Bin or cyclone installed incorrectly: Reinstall the bin and cyclone assembly securely to restore the sealed airflow path.
Brush Bar or Cleaner Head Will Not Spin
- Hair wrapped around brush bar: Remove the brush bar and carefully cut away hair, string, thread, pet fur, and carpet fibers.
- Cleaner head blocked: Check the intake channel, brush chamber, and end caps for compacted debris or foreign objects.
- Electrical contacts dirty: Clean the dry electrical contacts between the vacuum, wand, and motorized cleaner head.
- Brush bar installed incorrectly: Reinstall the brush bar and end cap securely according to the model instructions.
- Overload protection activated: Turn off the vacuum, remove the obstruction, and allow the cleaner head to cool before restarting.
Dyson V-Series Battery & Charging Problems
- Battery will not charge: Check the charging adapter, wall outlet, battery contacts, and docking station connection.
- Short runtime: Fully charge the battery, clean filters, clear the brush bar, and use Eco or Auto mode when suitable.
- Blue light flashing: The battery may be charging, low on power, or require inspection depending on the flash pattern for your model.
- Red light flashing: Stop using the vacuum and check the model manual for battery, motor, or communication fault information.
- Battery becomes hot: Stop charging or operating the vacuum, allow the battery to cool, and inspect for blocked airflow or damage.
Dyson Filter Problems
- Filter warning appears: Wash the washable filter with cold water only and let it air dry completely for at least 24 hours.
- Vacuum smells after filter washing: The filter may not be fully dry. Remove it and allow additional drying time before use.
- Weak suction after cleaning filter: Confirm the filter is fully dry, correctly seated, and that no blockage remains in the airway.
- Filter damaged: Replace torn, warped, cracked, or heavily worn filters with a compatible replacement.
- Filter cannot be removed: Follow the release method shown in the model-specific owner manual and do not force the filter housing.
Dyson Detect™, Laser & LCD Display Problems
- LCD shows blockage message: Check the cleaner head, wand, bin inlet, cyclone, filter, and hose for obstruction.
- Laser light not working: Check that the compatible Fluffy Optic™ cleaner head is attached and the vacuum has sufficient battery power.
- Particle count display not updating: Empty the bin, clean the filter, inspect for blockages, and restart the vacuum.
- LCD screen frozen: Turn off the vacuum, remove the battery if applicable, wait briefly, then reconnect and restart.
- Runtime estimate changes: This can occur normally as the vacuum adjusts to the selected power mode, floor type, cleaner head load, and airflow condition.
Dyson Ball™ & Upright Vacuum Problems
- Vacuum is difficult to steer: Check the ball mechanism, wheels, cleaner head, and floor surface for debris or obstruction.
- Brush bar will not engage: Turn on the brush bar control where available and inspect for belt or brush bar obstruction.
- Hose has weak suction: Remove the hose and inspect the wand, hose, inlet, and attachment openings for blockage.
- Vacuum will not recline: Check the handle release pedal, locking mechanism, and rear wheels for debris or damage.
- Dust bin will not release: Empty the bin and remove dust around the release mechanism before attempting again.
Dyson Robot Vacuum Problems
- Robot will not charge: Confirm the charging dock has power, place it on a level surface, and clean the charging contacts.
- Robot cannot find dock: Keep the area around the dock clear and avoid moving the charging dock during cleaning or mapping.
- Robot stops or beeps: Check wheels, brushes, sensors, bin, and intake paths for hair, dust, or small objects.
- Navigation problem: Clean cameras, sensors, and cliff sensors. Remove loose cables, reflective surfaces, and small obstacles.
- Robot trapped: Clear thresholds, cords, thick rugs, narrow gaps, and furniture areas that prevent movement.
Noise, Odor & Maintenance Tips
- High-pitched sound: This often indicates a blockage, full bin, dirty filter, or restricted air path.
- Rattling noise: Check the cleaner head, wand, bin, hose, cyclone, and brush chamber for hard objects.
- Burning smell: Turn off the vacuum immediately. Remove brush bar hair buildup and inspect filters and air passages.
- Musty odor: Empty the bin, wash washable filters if applicable, and ensure all washable components are dry before reassembly.
- Routine maintenance: Empty the bin, clean filters, remove hair from brush bars, inspect seals, and clear the airflow path regularly.
Safety note: Always turn off and unplug the vacuum before cleaning filters, clearing blockages, removing the brush bar, changing accessories, or performing maintenance. Do not use the vacuum to collect flammable liquids, hot ash, sharp objects, or hazardous materials.
